★ Connect with Your Neighborhood Association
Connections within your local community are essential. It is recommended to join your neighborhood association.
Evacuation shelters may differ depending on the district. Make sure you know your local evacuation shelter.
You can also get useful information by participating in community disaster drills regularly.
※ Foreign residents are also welcome to join neighborhood/community associations.

★ Shelter-in-Place When Possible
Make your home as safe as possible. Some evacuation centers may only accept people whose homes are half-destroyed or completely destroyed.
Even if you stay at home, you can still receive information and supplies from designated support centers.
Store garbage at home until you receive disposal instructions from the city or your local association.
If the plumbing doesn’t work and causes backflow, use portable toilets.
★ Prepare at Least 3 Days’ Worth of Food and Water in Advance
Support may not reach evacuees during the first three days of a disaster. Prepare at least 3 days of emergency food and water.
Also, pack an emergency “go bag” with essentials.
Be sure to include coins, an ID card, and family contact information (written on paper).
Check essential items you can’t borrow from others, such as medicine, your medication notebook, glasses, hearing aids (with spare batteries), and dentures.
★ Temporary Stay Facilities for People Unable to Return Home Will Be Opened During Disasters
Check the “Temporary Stay Facility NAVI” (system for finding emergency shelters for stranded commuters).
Disaster Support Stations (registered convenience stores, restaurants, etc.) provide support to those who can’t return home — including toilet access and road information.
※ If you can stay at your workplace or school, it is strongly recommended that you do so.
★ Make Sure You Can Contact Family During a Disaster
Use Disaster Message Dial 171.
Agree in advance on a key phone number within your family or
