On November 9th, the workshop titled “The Tradition of ‘Wrapping'” was held, where participants learned about the deep cultural significance of wrapping, a practice that has been passed down for over 600 years in Japan. The session also touched on the differences between Japan’s wrapping culture and those of other countries, providing a deeper understanding of Japanese traditions.
Participants crafted their own “Pochi-bukuro” (small envelopes for New Year’s money) using washi paper. Perhaps this year’s New Year’s envelopes will be handmade?
Next up, on December 14th, we’ll dive into the tradition of “Tying” (Musubu) and also make Christmas-themed straps. We look forward to your participation!
