On June 22, we held the Hello world event titled “The Allure of Flamenco” .
Despite the heat, 14 participants joined us and spent an enjoyable time together.
Our instructor was Ms. Iku Yano, who has over 20 years of flamenco experience and has even studied flamenco in Spain during a short-term program.
She also happens to be one of the staff members at the Kohoku Lounge reception desk!
We kicked things off with a toast with grape juice ♪ (The bottle looked just like a wine bottle, so it felt a little like having real wine!)
The toast in Spanish got everyone excited:
¡Arriba, abajo, al centro, pa’dentro!
Next, we learned about the history of flamenco, how to clap rhythmically (palmas), its rhythms, costumes, and accessories.
There was also a mini hands-on lesson ♪ Participants quickly picked it up and danced together, synchronizing their hands and feet while doing turns.
Everyone was very curious about how to use the castanets (palillos) too ♪
To wrap things up, we enjoyed a performance by the instructor.
The exotic movements, rhythm, and costumes captivated everyone, making the 90 minutes fly by.
